Scotland #5 - Raasay & Rona towards Torridon and Beinn Eighe
This shot, looking east from Skye over the Raasay Strait towards Applecross and the mountains beyond on the mainland, with the sun behind me, beautiful blue sky and scudding white clouds creating layers and depth, brings mana to my heart.
Not just because it distills everything about the fabulous Scottish landscape but, when it comes to landscape photography, the expression "don't fight the light" is always rattling around at the back of my mind, and this image is a great example why.
This image was made at the same time as Scotland #2, but a few metres down the track and 180 degrees difference in view. You can see on the shot of Sgùrr nan Gillean how the light is streaming towards the camera, which really helps the glints on the loch and the way the light streams stand out against the mountain. However, to make this shot work takes a lot of post-production to get it right - I don't mind this ('cos I love the shot) but I'm all for an easy life.
