A longer view of the part of the Great Whin Sill that runs through and along Hadrian's Wall in Northumberland.

Although shot in September, the image gives a great illustration of the good old adage "4 seasons in one day!" An hour before, the sun had bathed this scene in bright light and an hour later it was hail stones!

This view also gives the viewer both an idea of the scale of Hadrian's plans, and the view the marauding invaders had when they approached the wall from the north.

Housestead's Roman Fort lies behind the copse of trees just beyond the lake.
