Lake District #4 - Stickle Tarn, Great Langdale
Lake District #4 - Stickle Tarn, Great Langdale
Another view of Pavey Ark, but this time from a slightly closer viewpoint, looking out over Stickle Tarn.
I waited for a long while to see if I could get a mirror finish on the water, but the breeze was too strong....and the damn ducks kept insisting on quacking into view. I'm still really happy with the reflections of the Ark and the sky, and love the counterpoint of the smaller rocks in the foreground.
If you look closely you can trace the path of Jack's Rake running up the Ark from lower left to upper right. Wainwright called this route "a rock climb rather than a walk" but it's actually classified as a grade 1 scramble rather than a climb. However, be aware; it should not be undertaken lightly - you need to be fit, experienced and with good boots to attempt it; it can be dangerous.
To get to the tarn, there's a fairly short, stiff but easy climb up from the New Dungeon Ghyll pub at the base of the fell, but definitely worth the effort to see this diorama in closer detail.....and after the walk back down you know there's a cool refreshing reward for your efforts waiting.
