Lake District #3 - Harrison Stickle & Pavey Ark, from Side Pike
You'll find this view at the western end of Great Langdale, looking north from the top of Side Pike. I'd been camped out behind the small plantation you can see at the bottom left of the frame for a few days, waiting for the right weather....something you do an awful lot of if you want to photograph a particular view of the lakes!
This was my third visit to Great Langdale, staying on the same camp site, and I'd 'seen' this view a number of times, but never with quite the right skies or direction of sunlight. I was determined to make the image on this trip and, IMHO, persistence paid off in the end!
I think this was around 7am in late August, and I'd waited for an hour or so for the sun to reach just the right position; casting the long shadows from the trees in the foreground, highlighting the ridges on Pavey Ark and catching Harrison from the side.
One of my personal favourites, I'm just trying to portray the stillness, silence, solitude and ethereal beauty you can only get from an early morning in the English countryside.
