Lake District #1 - From Lake Windermere, towards Helvellyn & Skiddaw Pike
The Lake District is usually portrayed as an idyllic place of smooth water and graceful peaks; well, surprisingly, it's not always that way inclined. Even in high summer, the weather throws curveballs, turning sunlit days into moody, cloud-framed gloom.
But, as I hope to show here, there is still great drama, impact and beauty of a different kind. Shot from a small ferry in the middle of Lake Windermere, the lowering skies meet the great peaks of Helvellyn and Skiddaw in the distance.
Shooting from a small boat in the middle of a windswept lake is NOT recommended! I made about 15 exposures of this view.....and this was the only one that wasn't blurred. A fellow passenger suggested I might want to use a tripod.....hmmmmm; the idea of a chocolate teapot sprang to mind.
